Bongs favourite @ Durga Puja
Bongs grand celebrations : Durga Puja!
Lot of speculations are around the country why the BONGS start celebrating (as I intentionally avoid the word worship) Durga Puja from Sashthi to Dashami!! It's funny to explain as many of us even don't know the details of Navaratri , i.e. DEVIPAKSHA!! According to religious belief Durga Puja is known by different names and it is being celebrated in different ways - Navaratri, Durga Ashtami, Maha Navami, Saraswati Puja, Dussehra, Ramleela , Akalbodhan and Vijayadashami.
Devi is worshiped in three different forms of Durga, next three days as Lakshmi and the last three days as Saraswathi. The 10th day is called Vijayadashami.
We Bongs stand apart from crowd proudly..... more than devotion, meaningless so called strict rituals, we prefer to celebrate this, as ocasion to get together among scattered family members , friends and enjoy fullest!! And obviously, there is nothing wrong , as happiness brings peace and prosporous!
To us, the Kash phool in barrel lands, fragnance of sheuli phool, floating of milky white fragile broken clouds around the Indigo blue sky bring the essence of Maa Durga! And from Sashthi to Dashami, our Maa with blood & flesh (mothers) are breathless and tirelessly making yummy foods to satisfy our maan ( mind & soul) through tummy to celebrate Durga puja in a grand way!!Decorate house with new curtains, cushon covers, bed sheets with pillow covers, etc etc.., though now a days we forgot these small small customs as we are doing thrughout the year! Practically in this materialistic world, we forgot to satisfy our soul, rather love to follow in showbiz competetion what makes our never ending desires!! I still remember that my Maa used to collect all the jute ropes from packing boxes and made beautiful decorative doormates what actually recycled the product and at the same way , she shaved the moneys. Whereas I change the doormates often and waste our money!! Whenever, I analyse those, I feel really ashamed.... but I atleast try to be expertise my culinary quality from bong food to world 's different tastes to avoid going restaurant....
Today is Navami!! Bongs love to feast with Kosha mangsho ( chicken/ mutton) with fried rice. And tomorrow it would be sad day as it's Dashami: time to say good bye to Maa Durga and team! But after bisorjan, fun will start by celebrating Bijoya Dashami with yummy deserts and snacks (narkel nadu i.e. coconut laddoo, and nimkis) from Maa's kitchen!!
This year I couldn't celebrate Durga puja anyway as my beloved father-in-law left us... let him rest in peace. As a custom , we are prohibited from any rituals for one year. But my 13 year boy is little upset that he missed all the fun that his Mamma's cooked yummy foods too. He is very sad that we cannot do rangoli in the entrance too(!) , what he usually helps me to shape up!! To cheer him up , my husband took a day-off from his busy schedule in the office, on Saptami, and we went to visit various pandels and have sighted Maa Durga; and ended up the trip by eating Fish Cutlet, Mughlai Parotha, Rasogulla,Phuchkas and two different types of cold drinks ( what strictly prohibited for him to drink). So, he was super happy that day! But again today he was very saddened from the morning by knowing that I cannot make narkel nadu this year! So to make him happy , I painted our balcony wall on Sashthi....

As my husband always celebrate Dashami in a grand way what my son is cherishing from the begining of his life (i.e. from Los Angeles, USA); now to avoid his awekard feelings, my dear hubby decided to stay away from home that day..... So, we have planned to 3 days trip to Mahabalipuram from tomorrow!
Happy Dussera/ Durga puja to all whoever is reading this.......
