Kalaratri, Sahastrara Shakti: 7th day of Navaratri
Kalaratri : Sahastrara Shakti
Maa Kalaratri, who is prominently worshipped on the seventh day of the Navratri festival, is considered the fiercest and most ferocious form of Goddess Parvati. According to mythology, Goddess Parvati took the form of Maa Kalaratri when she removed her golden skin to kill demons. Maa Kaalratri rides a donkey, has open hair, a complexion as dark as a night, and wears a garland made of Narmund, or human skulls. Goddess Kaalratri is portrayed as having four hands, a heavenly-shaped body, and her left hand carrying a torch and cleaver while her right hand is in the giving and shielding mudra. On her forehead, the Goddess has three eyes. She exudes strength and vitality. When she breathes in, flames shoot out of her nostrils. She is the most dangerous form of Maa Durga, yet her sole method of protection is against demons. The worshippers of Maa Kaalratri bestow onto her the wishes they have in mind.
Although on many occasions people think that Kali and Kalratri are the same, they are not. It is believed that Maa Kalratri safeguards her devotees from all devils. Because of her promising power, Goddess Kalratri is also called Goddess Shubhankari. Other names for her are Goddess Mahayogishwari and Goddess Mahayogini.
Devi Kalratri is considered as the fiercest form of Durga ( Maa Parvati).
