Kojagiri Lakshmi Puja : on Sharad Purnima

Kojagiri Lakshmi Puja : on Sharad Purnima

Kojagiri Lakshmi Puja is an auspicioKojagiri Lakshmi Pujaus day dedicated to worshipping Goddess Lakshmi during Purnima (full moon) in the Bengali / Hindu month of ‘Ashwin’. It is celebrated in the different states of West Bengal, Assam, and Orissa.

Maa Lakshmi is known to be the Goddess of prosperity, and it is believed that on the day of ‘Ashwin Purnima’, the Goddess descends on Earth to abundantly bless all with prosperity and good health. The day of Kojagiri Purnima is also referred to as Sharad Purnima in some parts of India.

The rituals of Kojagara Puja vary from community to community. Elaborate Lakshmi Puja is performed under the supervision of a priest.

In my Sasural ( In-Laws family), we worship married women only by fasting wholday, and husbands are ornamentally sitting in the puja with full tummy. Jokes apart, at first we draw lots of alpana and Maa's PADA chihna ( feets) with rice flour mixing water, then place a stool/chouki by covering laal shalu/ red cloth and then placing a ghat/ pot filling with water amrasakha/ mango branch with 5/7/9 leaves and a Coconut; then we offer white flowers,  Marigold. flower, vermillion (sindur). As prasad, we offer coconut,  palm flower (what I skip as  unable to get in Bangalore) , flat rice soaked in coconut water, and jaggery. Perform aarti , give ulu (a sound we bengalis make by tongue twisting), and blow the Shankh thrice.

Yes, entire rituals happened in the evening by staying terrible fasting! We married women draped a saree and put ghomta (covering head) and do minimal makeup ( vermillion/sindur, Alta must.... Alta, I skip as usual; mentioned the story before) with some jwellery .

Subho Kojagiri Lakshmi Puja to all🙏💐❤️.
